doesn't generally create cures. They're not nearly as profitable as ongoing 'treatments' & 'therapies' allowing them to sell us something for the rest of our prolonged but somewhat miserable lives.

Similarly, IT security vendors don't tell you the key thing you can do to protect yourself digitally. They want to sell you anti-virus & 'enterprise intrusion detection systems', etc. But they'll never say: you would vastly reduce your risk & costs by *not using MS Windows*.

Also, when an organisation is afflicted with a security issue (just saw this: infosec.exchange/@briankrebs/1 what do you want to bet a Windows-specific flaw was exploited?), the immediate cry from the organisation is "we need to throw more money at security!". No. No you don't. You need to throw *less* money at your entire broken IT infrastructure by eliminating the resource sucking leeches from your procurement roster & the low quality dependencies they've inflicted upon you..

Infosec ExchangeBrianKrebs (@briankrebs@infosec.exchange)The University of Michigan has taken itself completely offline in response to a security incident. It took this step the day before classes started. https://umich.edu/announcements/

Then you can focus your *savings* on *digital education*. We need more enlightened people to help us out of this digital Dark Age we're in. davelane.nz/darkage
