#Lubuntu are switching from the discontinued #LXDE desktop to its replacement, #LXQT, from 18.10 onwards:
They have also announced they are dropping support for 32-bit PCs from 19.04 onwards:
So 18.04 LTS is the last version of Lubuntu that can be recommended for use with older PCs. #Trisquel 9 will be based off 18.04 LTS, and I presume #Mate will remain the default desktop. Trisquel 8 is what I run (for now) on an ancient 32-bit Acer netbook
@strypey Is it just Canonical that discontinued LXDE? According to the LXDE website and forum they're still alive.
@LeftCoast these people are all speculating. Here it is from the horses mouth:
"In the longer term, most Razor-qt components will fully be integrated into the LXDE-Qt and both teams will focus on the same project. Looking further ahead, the GTK version of LXDE will be dropped and all efforts will be focused on the Qt port. "
@strypey That was published July 22, 2013. Nothing lasts forever, but I'm happy that LXDE has not been discontinued yet.
