@Wolf480pl @david_ross pointbeing - speaking as a (failed) science student, whose wife is a PhD in anthropology - I think it depends very much on the nature of the room and the crowd. Perhaps we could generalize that humanities students tend to be more conciliatory in the way they *express* their criticisms, but with so few unarguable axioms in the humanities, its very much about cut'n'thrust.

@Wolf480pl @david_ross Maths students might "destroy" each others' proofs, but they would never argue that only a #PersonOfXBackground would offer that kind of proof in the first place. At its worst, debate in the humanities can be just as much of a blood sport as it the numerical sciences. In fact, I would say the natural sciences are the domain of hippy love-ins (that's what I studied ;)
