It occurs to me that any first contact scenario with aliens will, by necessity, be full of lies
No one who values self-preservation would present everything there is to us

There is the idea (Stanton Friedman) that aliens have visited us, and they keep showing up around advanced research facilities to intentionally slow down our progress so that we don’t get further into space than we already are because the aliens do not want us for neighbors since our primary activity is tribal warfare.
@rotatingskull @cypnk I like the idea presented in #StarTrek #TNG suggesting that the aliens are waiting for us to make it to warp on our own, before showing themselves, out of respect for something resembling the #PrimeDirective.
