As basic contact tracing technology principles:
1. anyone should be able to audit the code, without requiring permission (i.e. fully open source)
2. any other country should be able to use it freely, and
3. no private interest (business) should be able to claim any property rights over this service or code.
This is for the greater good.
This is what our Prime Minister means when she says that any virus exposure tracking software will be "open source" and why it's important! https://nzoss.nz/what-jacinda-means-by-an-open-source-app
Will the current crisis finally be the thing that breaks us of our "growth" addiction? We need to be thinking about doughnuts. (see Kate Raworth's Doughnut Economics - https://kateraworth.com )
I'd like to propose an NZ Friday virtual drinkies event, starting at 5pm today (NZ DST). The venue is https://bbb.nzoss.nz/b/dav-fp4-4yz all welcome - no software install required, just a modern browser (or Safari if you're on iOS :) ) like Chrom(ium|e), Firefox, Brave. Charge your glass, don headphones (& clothing, it's a family show!), fire up your webcams and join us! We're keen to stress test our BigBlueButton... so far our max in a session is 40+, but we're going for 100-200...
The NZOSS is very pleased to see this excellent support for a key open source technology, BigBlueButton! https://www.catalyst.net.nz/news/bigbluebutton-secure-video-conferencing-hosted-new-zealand Well done, Catalyst!
We're currently running quite a few video conferencing sessions on our BigBlueButton instance, but we've got capacity for plenty more... Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you need a 'room' for your own conferences. See https://nzoss.nz/relief for more info. Also, we encourage you to join https://chat.nzoss.nz for any support needs.
We share the freedom of Free and Open Source Software with NZers and work to enrich our shared digital and physical Commons.
