So.... was there a 7.2 quake in Taiwan earlier today or not? The media aren't reporting anything, but there was a mention of it in passing on Reddit... (yeah, I know).

As I've been saying for a long time now (e.g. our Ministry of Education's ill-informed use of digital technology provided by US-based multinational proprietary software forms is a disservice to our tamariki. Here's some more evidence:

@lightweight $21 billion in profit last year. They can afford to clean up.

And any claims "they didn't know" about the dangers... are, well, bullshit. They took the profit, they can pay the piper because it was their risk. Anything less is avoiding paying the real cost of their profit-motivated activities.

This makes me very angry: another example foreign corporations running roughshod over foreign lands and regulation and not taking responsibility for the horrible mess they've created.

I will be livid if either a single cent of taxpayer money is spent to clean this up completely - it's on Rio Tinto, as majority owner and majority profiteer, or if they get away with anything less than a complete clean up.

Microsoft could be the canonical example of the lack of correlation between financial wealth and worthiness.

We now know that a couple tech monopolies ensure the viability of even the most unworthy and inept practitioner.

Puking in my mouth hearing the Microsoft GM on RNZ trying sound like she's down-to-earth and 'for the people'. Saccharine (fake sweetness). Microsoft isn't good. It's a US multinational corporation.

This is interesting to see: James is running for ECan here in my local electoral ward. He's a good sort for sure and I'm pleased to see he's thinking about these things. I approve of his principled stand.
