By my count that's 50 Paradise (aka Shell) ducks, and 5 mallards across the road. Wow.

Man, I'm in a bad mood today. I think it's trepidation about what's going to happen in the land of my birth tomorrow... *sigh*

And I'm not just talking about the fake videos - I'm talking about the thinking behind them, by Stephanie Lepp, as highlighted by Anand Giridharadas...

"Deep Reckonings" is Stephanie Lepp's art project: she's created three deepfake videos in which three of the current moment's most clueless powerful monsters have a moral reckoning and make a clean breast of their failings.

And a councillor of 2 charitable organisations for 3 and 12 years respectively (and president of the latter for 9 years!). Where does the time go?

Holy cow - I just realised I've been (co-)founder and (co-)director of 5 companies over the past 28 years... Oddly, that surprises me.

(lest anyone mistake that last one for actually being sympathetic, er, no, it's not. MSFT made Windows insanely complex and hard to fix on purpose. They made the bed, now they have to lie on it.)

It's unfriendly to developers who want to take away other people's rights. That's a feature, not a bug.

I mean, you might as well argue that commercial software licenses are unfriendly to developers. After all, they don't let you sell copies of the software as part of your own bundles.

We found an open source license that Google is against so we're changing to it: Hello AGPL!

It helps prevent corporations from taking our code and selling it as a proprietary competitor.

No change to you as a Plausible subscriber or self-hoster.

#Apple is apparently now making repair parts deliberately non-interchangable.

They are going out of their way to make parts of the same phone model stop working if they're taken out of one identical model and put in another.

These make-work rent seeking behaviours will not stop until your microwave refuses to cook unless you use the original turntable, or your washer refuses to run until you use a maufacturer-direct, overengineered leash disguised as a replacement part.

Everything we figure out on our own is being gobbled up by copyrighted documentation, patent portfolios, DRM specifications, and legislative restrictions. The question is, when is enough enough?

It's that time of the year: first crop from our new artichoke plant!

@lightweight Huh, wow. I haven't seen a blog with #Drupal in a long time so I got curious if it supports Webmentions (my favourite way for comments next to comments via social media backfeed). Turns out there is a plugin by @swentel (who is also the author of Indigenous for Android).

This means [probably] whopping awesome #IndieWeb support in Drupal (#ActivityPub included) which I was not aware of:

drupal.org/project/indieweb

I'm intrigued. Mebbe I should give Drupal a try.

Ok , after months of not having commenting on my blog (having decided that using Disqus was not compatible with my values), I've finally decided to use native Drupal commenting, including reply notification and moderation. Seems to work quite well! Only downside: I can't easily import the historical Disqus comments... but actually, that's probably for the best.
