Kannste dir nicht ausdenken, wie dreist die noch immer sind:

Neuer Microsoft Edge kopiert ungefragt Browserdaten von Firefox und lässt sich nur per Taskkill daran hindern

My indirect commute to my home office (via the port hills) was moist and the views murky... but it feels good to blow the stink off of a morning.

Rocket.Chat (self-hosted) has become indispensable for both the distributed organisations I work in over the past few years.

I can't understand why any organisation would commit their collaboration to overseas platforms like Slack, Discord, and MSFT Teams where you have to pay to access your own data... sort of like a ransom... Yup. Ransomware.

By the way, @devinprater - I wanted to mention that I like your site! It's very visually appealing, clean and clear. Nice use of Hugo.

NZ, now's the time to show leadership. Get out of the sceptic 5 Eyes organisation that only pays lip service to democracy. They're an organisation for protecting the current locus of power, currently controlled by partisan & corporate interests that have nothing to do with the common good or with empathy to people. We need to shift the locus quite dramatically. The wrong people call the shots.

In case you ever wondered if UI components implemented in JS are worse than browser-provided native ones:

1. Open slack on a slow-ish computer
2. Send a message
3. Edit the message to add a missing question mark by qiickly typing: up-arrow, backspace, question-mark, enter

It will interpret the characters out of sequence. The question mark will go into new measage sending box instead of going into the edited message.

@ctmagazin

(note - she's clearly not distressed when she howls, it seems more like a "just joining in" type reaction)

Current status - trying to teach our dog to howl on command (she's a funny old thing - whenever one of her toys squeaks, she howls accompaniment)... trying to see if she'll learn to do one without being triggered by the other. :)

New blog post: Writing Richly: why Markdown system wide can improve writing and reading. Boosts appreciated, as I would love it if many people read this.

Now that it's a) US-owned & b) mostly serving the US military industrial complex, I've totally gone off RocketLab. There might be clever folk there, but their activities are no longer ethically acceptable. Respect lost, I'm afraid.

Listening to Dr Bloomfield giving today's COVID19 briefing. He said something about border testing, saying something like "anyone showing signs (of sickness) goes straight to quarantine"... he should've said "... goes straight to the pool room." Missed opportunity. Next time, eh.

This set of massive shifts from Apple should act as a reminder that US corporations like Apple (& MSFT, FB, GOOG, Amazon, etc.) are all totalitarian regimes. You use their products or build a business around their technologies *at their pleasure*. Your investment & loyalty are nothing to them. They can run roughshod over their monoculture anytime it suits their bottom line. And yet, somehow, people continue to worship them. Seems a disastrous survival tactic.

Does anyone know if the new MacOS on ARM will still be based on Darwin (open source Mach kernel) or will it be fully proprietary like iOS?

Will watch with interest as the Apple faithful rationalise the shift to ARM & the accompanying need to buy all new hw, new adaptors, etc. at 4-20x the commodity price... & their trumpeting "ease of use" while privacy, self-sufficiency, & data sovereignty continue to fade to a quaint memory.

rnz.co.nz/programmes/the-detai Yes - I think RocketLab - & NZ in general - needs to steer clear of this increasingly dangerous US gov't & US military. In fact, the US is not a suitable partner these days, nor is it likely to be in the foreseeable future. NZ should pull out of 5 Eyes until the US regains rule of law, dismantles its corporatocracy, & regains a sense of decency.
