Been playing with Ardour lately (a full-blown commercial-grade Digital Audio Workstation)... version 6 has just been released, and it's impressive. Wow. Audio-wonks and sound engineers, have a look! ardour.org/whatsnew.html

Wanted: Open Source audio player particularly suited for mp3 podcasts on Android.

Any good experiences?

Sorry, that last sentence is fairly dodgy, but hope the meaning shines through even so - obviously forgot to read it after going through a few parentheticals remarks while writing...

Oh snap - Google gets a-schoolin'. skarnet.org/text/google.html As one who's also fended off a few Google hiring overtures, this is satisfying to see. I wish, too, that Google's exploitation of & hypocrisy of employing exclusively proprietary software that creates an in-built power imbalance (that they have frequently abused) despite being built upon FOSS is the only key point that's missing.

Wow, cool to see the story behind my bro, who's totally dedicated to his field, discovering his second new bird species! eurekalert.org/pub_releases/20

I think it's slowly dawning on Muller that he's flogging a dead horse. He hasn't got the required juice.

I think we should call National the "Look... there's a rabbit in the headlights" party.

Strikes me the National Party is fundamentally hostile to democracy. I suppose that qualifies as a principle... but not one I think voters should admire.

Show thread

I get the strong feeling that everyone in National sees democracy as an annoying convention here in NZ. They'd much prefer a totalitarian command-and-control corporate structure (with which they're all most familiar, it appears) so they could run NZ like a soulless (and evil) US multinational. They sort of gave the game away by suspending democracy in Canterbury.

Ugh, Muller's another corporate lacky - Zespri and Fontera. Corporate experience is antithetical to democratic credibilty. Uninspiring and a philosophical deadzone. Not who I'd want running my country.

Show thread

Yup - first "Aw.. look..." on second or third question. Blech.

Show thread

Will be interesting to see if Muller is also prone to "Look..." in this interview on RNZ wth Kathryn Ryan...

The affectation of starting every interview response with "Look..." is ponderous and inauthentic. I wonder if National's political advisors coach their leaders to do that... Maybe they're operating under the impression is makes their politicians sound more authoritative and less hurried. If so, their impression is sorely mistaken.

Does anyone remember the cool guerrilla txextured graphics tiling project in the late '90s that used JFK and school bus graphics in its quirky branding? I can't remember the name of it. Used to love it - so funky.

And now NIWA's again predicting a big rain on Monday for Canterbury - 17.5 mm!

Damn, this is my jam today, and not for the first time. invidio.us/watch?v=YEFLR2JnMd0 Irresistible groove. Literate as hell. Prophetic. And plucked fiddle + whistling.
