Instead, most people place their blind faith in a few of the largest (and, surprisingly, the most technically inept) corporations the world has ever seen... I'm convinced that faith is completely misplaced.

In the past, it was a matter of professional pride for every worker to *master their tools*. Today, in the computer age, though, that expectation has been dashed. Almost all workers depend on their computers for their livelihood, and 95% are almost completely ignorant of everything about them. This has created an incredible, unprecedented liability - the pervasive digital ignorance is like voluntarily disabling our entire society's immune system.

If you are feeling increasingly insecure & vulnerable to online threats, you're perceptive. How do you shore up your security & privacy?

Learn. Your computer is now your crucial tool. It's on you to learn about threats & how to mitigate them. No one will do it for you.

Recognise that the "popular" platforms are doing *nothing* to protect you. The megacorps controlling them use your fear to sell you more stuff.

Ditch Windows & MacOS for a *massive* boost in your resilience & learning ops.

This is quite a good essay... Pete Buttegieg's award winning high school essay in praise of political authenticity... whose primary subject is, wait for it, Bernie Sanders.

Damning that our leaders, who frequently wring their hands about the obstinate lawlessness & excessive power of Facebook... use FB Live as the *only* way they communicate with NZers in some contexts. NZ Gov't could easily use independent () software, hosted here in NZ, to do the same thing, rather than letting FB mediate our democratic processes. Seems lazy & unprincipled to me & more than a bit hypocritical. Stop pandering to US multinationals. They are no friends of ours.

They're really excited about this project. A little bit too excited.

An uneasy feeling start to gnaw in the back of your head as you read on.

#microsoft : #github loves "open source"
Me: OK, where's the code of GitHub?
Them: Oh. About that....
Me: So it's not #freesw and not even "open source"
It's an attack on Open Source, a trap for it

"Here's the thing. At the end of the war, there was a very clear rule. If you were a Nazi, you went to jail. Now, the rules have changed a bit. If you're a Nazi, feel free to have a rally down in the town square, you can invite all your mates. So something's changed, and something's not right, and we have forgotten.. the rules, I guess."

The US is on the cusp. If people believe the strategists who insist that US voters are too dumb and too conservative to elect Bernie Sanders... then I suspect all is lost regardless of who runs against Trump. Those pundits are just blowing smoke at the best of times.

Pssst, US voters. If you *really* want to poke a finger in the eye of the corrupt establishment that's been holding you down for the past 30 years... a vote for Sanders is the most radical, annoying thing you could possible do. Trump's just a low-brow confidence guy with an eye on grabbing what little you've go left. Pass it along.

I'm mystified by the fact that sooo many websites, of "credible" organisations refer to "FAQ's"... does this text belong to an FAQ? No. It's meant to be FAQs (plural of FAQ = Frequently Asked Question). This isn't hard, people. I think our education system is failing us on basic punctuation. Achieving understanding is greatly aided by clear communication. Using language precisely and according to freely available open standards (in every library!), saves us lots of unnecessary misunderstandings.

So... I've managed to develop a deep disdain for LinkedIn, to the point where I won't even use it any more. If someone uses it to contact me, I'll work out their email and contact them directly instead of via the platform. Soulless blech.

For every RT¹, I'll donate $5 to Krita/GIMP/Akira, so another generation doesn't end up stuck with Adobe's bullshit

FYI, *anyone* can give $5 to support free software. It's like buying software, but without being exploited!
