@gael I took the leap and installed /e/ on my Moto G (after ensuring I had a working backup phone).
It was very easy because I already had LineageOS and TWRP installed. Working nicely so far thanks. Not clear if/how I can install more apps...

(BTW my first linux was about Mandrake 7.0 thanks for that too)

Is there something wrong with me as a hard-core technologist that I'm not even vaguely tempted to get a "virtual assistant" (a Siri, Alexa or MS' also ran, Cortana). In fact, when I hear others talk about them I kinda puke in my mouth a little.

i haven’t used word since public school tried to indoctrinate me with microsoftware. lucky for me i’d already seen the light of libre technology

For the record, this is the first Windows-powered laptop allowed in our household (since my wife's last work notebook a few years back, which wasn't missed when it went).

My wife just brought home a brand new high-end HP laptop provided by her employer... Nice hardware. Shame it's hobbled with a freedom-disabled software monoculture that effectively holds its users to ransom (and charges them a pretty penny for the privilege).

Microsoft apparently still doesn't quite understand the concept of case-sensitivity in filenames & URLs and just changed github.com/Microsoft to github.com/microsoft, in turn breaking a ton of canonical URLs and references.

It's incredible how shortsighted and oblivious a company of that size can be, really 🙄

Hi, everyone! We are a workers co-op, predominately based in the UK.

We provide tech services with a commitment to privacy, transparency and sustainability. We have a strong commitment to libre software.

We are especially interested in working with co-ops and other collective organisations working for a better world.

This account is simultaneously posting on both Twitter and Mastodon (Fediverse). Bear with us while we tweak the settings for this integration. It might be a little annoying till we figure this out 😄

@enkiv2 Yeah, or "I don't want to be a sysadmin." Which is utter nonsense; as a developer it's way easier to have a working dev environment on a Linux desktop than on Windows or MacOS. My non-Linux-using coworkers have to engage in all kinds of strange gymnastic to work comfortably with the Ubuntu VMs they need to build our software.

TIL that Barack Obama's a synth nerd... who knew?!

One very bad thing about scientific papers being behind paywalls is that (competing) pseudoscience isn’t behind paywalls, so it’s easier to find misinformation online than to find facts.

Peertube is *very* cool. It's like Youtube, but copyleft and federated and run by communities you can trust with your data, not by Google. As Mastodon is to Twitter, Peertube is to Google. Here's a sample of my account: peertube.video/videos/watch/f3

So it turns out that Mastodon's Docker configuration now manages its own Content Security Policy, and my own one (in the reverse proxy config) was muddying the waters. Disabled that and now media uploads work great again. Mastodon has a lot of clevers inside!

Also, yesterday on our morning walk, noticed this little spot along the road near our house... How cool is that?!

Testing image upload with a late afternoon photo of our broken (due to ) Catholic cathedral here in Christchurch...
