People who've done FOSS/self-hosted home automation, what system(s) did you use and how well does your setup work?

@alexbuzzbee I'm just about to embark on it myself with a new house (being built now) using Home Assistant at the recommendation of several FOSS home-owning friends. home-assistant.io/

I've got a pile of IKEA TRADFRI stuff languishing in boxes, just another thing on the to-do heap.

+1 for HomeAssistant for the "brain" as it's absolutely superb.

I'm using a mix if IKEA Tradfri, iTead Sonoffs flashed with ESPhome, and my hot water & central heating thermostat is a HestiaPi.

If anyone knows any good brand of electric radiator with sensible APIs, I'd be *very* interested!

@gwmngilfen @deejoe @alexbuzzbee @codesections I'm looking forward to exercising my friend Hads' nice hack to control our new Mitsubishi heatpumps... nicegear.nz/blog/hacking-a-mit and hope to contribute further to it as required to get it integrated into HA...
