"Be practical" as a rationale for doing the wrong thing is almost always employed by someone who benefits from retaining the status quo. We need to remind people that "expedience is the *absence* of principle"...

We need to have a society based on clear, well explained principles... because we need to stop digging a whole lot of holes now if we ever hope to get out of them. That means doing the right thing *especially* when "not practical" because it shows structural problems we need to fix.


The common response from institutionalised individuals is "it's too hard to change the system"... Thankfully, we have a very good quote that backs us up...
