It appears as though apostasy (recanting or denying belief in the Muslim god, Allah) carries a harsh penalty (not sure what it is, as it's not clear from their Sharia Law smartraveller.gov.au/countries ) - but only applies to those who the court determines are Muslim... So any former Muslim convinced atheists in Brunei need to be very careful, along with a number of other minority groups. nytimes.com/2019/03/28/world/a
