The sheer number of people on Facebook with their real names, photos, locations and workplaces on their profile who are happy to throw abuse at other people kinda disproves the argument that it’s online anonymity that causes abusive behaviour

Today I learned that 'Wintermute' isn't just a made-up AI name that William Gibson invented

ANNE WINTERMUTE LANE, psychic and automatic writer, dabbler with mind-meltingly cosmic forces from the Infinite Swirling Wossnames of Beyond, also wife of Franklin Knight Lane (US Secretary of the Interior 1913-1920 under Woodrow Wilson)

@smallsees using Tk from another language just funnels commands through a Tcl instance. they're too tightly integrated to implement them any other way. believe me, i've tried

We think of plants as stationary beings, but they're not. They just live on different timescales to animals like us.

All plants move, their leaves jostling amongst each other, trying to catch the optimal amount of light. But mostly, we don't notice.

Sometimes, I catch my plants moving when their leaves brush past each other. Usually after I adjust their lights, the fussy little things.

Some things that I have noticed since I quit #Facebook:

- My family still loves me and still talks to me
- Old friends from high-school still talk to me
- Old friends from college still talk to me
- I still meet new people
- I still make new friends
- I still shop at local businesses
- I'm still aware of events in my community

Huh, it's almost like I never needed Facebook in the first place.

@joeyh is a quirky visionary whom I respect a lot. I just finished re-reading "ending the tyranny of unix permissions" from 13 yeas ago. It still rings true, and will continue to inform and affect my software architectural thinking in the future.

Wow. Gosh darn it.
